Specialized training to improve management of fixed assets for senior staff from the Beirut Municipality Engineering Division

Beirut Municipality engineering division employees participate in technical training courses to improve efficiency in the management of municipal inventory and assets.

Under USAID’s Municipal Governance Assistance Program SUNY/CLD organized technical training in August of 2007 for employees from the Engineering Division at Beirut Municipality responsible for the management of inventory and fixed assets.

Senior staff members participated in specialized courses designed to enable the manual records to be fully computerized for use by stock keepers, accountants, and municipal officials.

Employees were provided intensive training in the use of the Municipal Inventory and Asset System (MIAS) and in the standardized business processes developed by SUNY/CLD to address the need for consistency and accountability in the collection and management of inventory and asset data.

Use of the system and the procedures will enable physical and accounting inventory balances to be reconciled, greater efficiency and transparency in terms of inventory management to be achieved, opportunities for misuse of assets to be minimized, and proper information for planning, budgeting, and reporting to be provided to officials.

Part of efforts to ensure that human resource capacities are consistent with the technical strategies and systems being implemented, the training is essential as well to municipal employees being able to sustain the initiative beyond the project.
