Oversight Agency Inspectors Participate in Financial Workshop
A
financial and technical training workshop was organized
February 7, 2007 in Beirut for 27 Inspectors from the Central
Inspection Board, the primary agency responsible for the
administrative and financial oversight of government. Part
of activities designed to encourage greater accountability
and transparency in the financial work of local government
and the development of an institutional environment that
facilitates an improved quality of governance, the workshop
focused on the standardized procedures and systems developed
by SUNY/CLD and now utilized by most municipalities in
Lebanon.
In
his opening remarks SUNY/CLD Lebanon Director Mahmoud
Batlouni provided an overview of these procedures,
processes, and customized systems. Detailed presentations of
the automated financial systems were then given in order to
enhance inspector capabilities to effectively inspect
municipal work processes - including those related to
municipal revenues and budget expenditures - and to broaden
the inspectors’ understanding of the new systems that support
more transparent and effective local government.
